Odisha took a significant step towards safer and smarter urban mobility with the launch of the Odisha Yatri Safety App, described as India’s first state-owned safety app. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched the initiative on the occasion of Local Self-Government Day.
The launch was attended by Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra and Odisha Yatri Brand Ambassador and noted actor Archita Sahu.
The new safety module introduces several emergency-response features, including one-click SOS, live location sharing and Shake & Alert. The Shake & Alert feature enables users to trigger an emergency alert simply by shaking their phone, allowing quicker access to assistance during stressful situations.
Passengers can also instantly connect with the national emergency response number 112, alert trusted contacts and share their live location in real time. The app additionally provides quick access to police, ambulance and fire services, along with audio recording and sharing facilities during emergencies.
The safety features have been designed for both passengers and drivers. Users can also use the “Mark Ride as Safe” option to close an alert after reaching their destination safely.
Chief Minister Majhi said safe, accessible and dependable mobility is essential for building citizen-friendly and prosperous cities. He emphasised the importance of technology in strengthening public confidence, particularly in ensuring that women can travel independently and without fear.
Odisha Yatri offers integrated mobility services, including ride booking, Ama Bus services, FASTicket spot booking and boating facilities.
With its new safety module, the platform aims to provide a more secure, affordable and convenient mobility experience across Odisha. Citizens can download or update the Odisha Yatri App to access the new features.
