INTACH at Delhi Metro Stations

INTACH at Delhi Metro Stations

Paperman Media (New Delhi)- The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and the Indian National Trust for Art & Cultural Heritage, had signed a Memorandum of Understanding in  September 2015  to develop Green Park and Jor Bagh Metro stations of the Yellow Line as a hub of art and culture and to promote the cause of bringing awareness of heritage sites in the domain of general public. As per the MoU, DMRC   had allocated  prominent locations of the concourse area of the  Metro stations  for the installation of exhibition panels displaying photographs and information of the heritage sites in the country with its historical reference.

The aim was  to  promote Indian heritage by taking these subjects to the commuters. While INTACH  arranged  display of  art works and  artefacts, DMRC  has  provided the necessary space. The displays  were to  be periodically replaced by INTACH so that visitors get to see new artefacts and art works from time to time.

The  latest  Heritage Exhibition at Jor Bagh Metro Station was  inaugurated by INTACH’s Chairman Shri Ashok Singh Thakur, on the 18th March.  The exhibit has been  curated by INTACH’s Bindu Vandana Manchanda and it  brings alive the layered history of the Jor Bagh precinct celebrating its built heritage, architectural traditions, and rich craftsmanship. It also highlights the Lodhi Art District, showcasing contemporary artistic expressions within a historic setting.

With thousands of daily commuters passing through these stations, the exhibition aims to spark curiosity and foster a deeper appreciation for Delhi’s rich cultural heritage among people from all walks of life.

Odisha based Historian and Governing Council member of INTACH Shri Anil Dhir and other Intach Members from all over the country had the privilege to attend the inaugural ceremony along with the Chairman.
