ILS organises international conference to explore novel therapeutics named EVOLVE

Paperman Media (Bhubaneswar )- The Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar, organised an international conference from 02-04 April, that brought together leading scientists from India and abroad to explore the potential of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases. Extracellular vesicles are tiny, membrane-bound particles released by many types of cells. They play a crucial role in intercellular communication by transporting proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids between different parts of the body.

Conducted under the aegis of the Indian Society for Extracellular Vesicles (InSEV), the conference named EVOLVE-2026 was attended by 180 participants from 62 different institutes across India and scientists from France, Germany, Sweden, the UAE and the USA. This conference examined the diverse roles of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in bacterial, viral, and other communicable diseases. Researchers also presented findings on the involvement of EVs in non-communicable conditions, including cancer, neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, and pulmonary fibrosis. A key highlight of the conference was the discussion on the potential of EVs as drug delivery vehicles and their applications in tissue regeneration, particularly in repairing bone damage associated with osteoporosis and bone cancers.

Several start-ups in India are leveraging EVs for therapeutic and diagnostic applications. Alongside them, start-ups from Odisha specializing in the development of research reagents were also represented at the conference. One of the faculty spin-offs from ILS, PolyOrbit founded by ILS scientist Dr Mamoni Dash is making steady progress in utilizing EVs and innovative biomaterials for bone repair. This conference is likely to provide a timely boost to this and other emerging start-ups said Prof Sujata Mohanty, President InSEV and Dr Debasis Dash, Director, ILS.
