Paperman Media ( Bhubaneswar )- The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will observe World Tribal Day and Kranti Diwas at Shankha Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, August 9. BJD president and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik will attend the programme and extend greetings to members of tribal communities.
Senior BJD vice-president Devi Prasad Mishra announced the programme at a press conference held at Shankha Bhawan. He said similar programmes would also be organised at various regional headquarters of the party in participation with tribal communities.
Mishra said Kranti Diwas would commemorate the freedom fighters who participated in the Quit India Movement of 1942. Tributes would be paid to the great revolutionaries and freedom fighters who fought against British rule.
He highlighted the significant contribution of tribal communities to India’s freedom struggle and said Odisha is home to 64 tribal communities, including several Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). Their traditional art, sculpture, handicrafts, dance and music constitute an important part of Odisha’s cultural heritage, he said.
The BJD reiterated its commitment to protecting tribal heritage and promoting the welfare and development of tribal communities. Mishra said several initiatives had been undertaken during Naveen Patnaik’s tenure as Chief Minister for tribal development.
Tribal representatives from different districts are expected to attend the Shankha Bhawan programme, where Naveen Patnaik will address the gathering.
