Odisha Lok Bhavan in Bhubaneswar has become the country’s first Lok Bhavan to receive the prestigious Platinum Certification under the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Green Campus Rating System, marking a significant milestone in sustainable and environment-friendly infrastructure.
The certificate was presented by IGBC National Chairman C. Shekar Reddy and received by Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati at a programme held at the New Abhishek Hall of Lok Bhavan on Tuesday. Lok Bhavan secured an impressive 88 marks out of 100, placing it in the highest category of the IGBC rating system.
Describing the recognition as a matter of pride for Odisha, Governor Dr. Kambhampati said the achievement was the result of collective efforts to transform Lok Bhavan into a green and sustainable campus. He highlighted initiatives including increased greenery, clean energy generation, renewable energy use and adoption of electric vehicles.
Lok Bhavan currently has a 635 kWp solar power system installed on its campus. The Governor also announced plans to install small windmills to further enhance renewable energy generation. He urged households and institutions to promote rooftop solar systems.
In another significant initiative, Odisha Lok Bhavan has adopted a fully electric vehicle carcade for the Governor, becoming the first Lok Bhavan in the country to completely convert the Governor’s carcade to electric vehicles.
The Governor also called upon universities in Odisha to pursue green certification and promote environmental awareness among students. Plans are also underway to install a 100 kW solar power plant at Lok Bhavan in Puri.
Law, Works and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan termed the recognition a proud achievement for Odisha and said it would inspire other government institutions to adopt sustainable practices.
