Paperman Media ( Bhubaneswar )- National Librarians’ Day was celebrated at the Harekrushna Mahatab State Library in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday with a tribute to Padma Shri S. R. Ranganathan, widely regarded as the father of library science in India.
On the occasion, all employees of the State Library paid floral tributes to Ranganathan and recalled his significant contribution to the development of library science and the promotion of reading culture.
Additional Secretary of the Department of Odia Language, Literature and Culture, Smita Mohanty, and Financial Advisor-cum-Joint Secretary Pramod Kumar Mandal attended the programme as guests. In their addresses, they highlighted Ranganathan’s pioneering role in strengthening library science and emphasised the importance of libraries and librarians in society.
The speakers observed that books continue to retain their unique importance even in the era of artificial intelligence and rapid digital transformation. They stressed the need to encourage the younger generation to develop a regular reading habit through books, novels and magazines.
All employees of the Harekrushna Mahatab State Library were felicitated during the programme in recognition of their services. Library Head Rudra Prasad Behera proposed the vote of thanks at the conclusion of the event.
