"Gandhi Samata Yatra”, starts from May 9 to mark the epochal yatra of Mahatma Gandhis's Padayatra by INTACH

Paperman Media (Puri)-The first preparatory meeting   for the proposed re-enactment of   Mahatma Gandhi’s Harijan Padyatra was held at Puri Club on the 23rd March at the Puri. For political correctness, this effort will be named as “Mahatma Gandhi Samata Yatra”, the word Harijan will be avoided.

20 Intach Members were present.  It has been proposed that the Puri Chapter will be inaugurated before the date and this will be the first event to be held by them.   The re-enactment of Mahatma Gandhi's  Epochal   Padayatra  will start  from the  9th May from Puri, culminating on 12th May  at Cuttack.

It was on 9th May 1934 that the Mahatma had set off on this epic Padyatra from Puri. The Yatra had ended at Cuttack on the 16th of May, however we shall be covering the distance in four days and culminate it on the 12th May. The  pit stops in all the places will happen as in the original Yatra.

There will be meetings, stopovers and night halts in the following places. These include Harekrushnapur, Chandanpur, Gopinathpur, Shivalichak, Biropurushotampur, Birogovindpur, Kadua,  Sakhigopal, Dandamukundapur, Siola, Pipili, Balakati,   Satyabhamapur, Balianta, Telengapentha, Kajipatna and culminate in a public meeting on the Kathjodi River Bank at Cuttack.

Intach members from all over the state and country will be invited to participate in the event. Gandhian organisations like the Harijan Sevak Sangh ,Gandhi Smarak Nidhi , Gandhi Peace Foundation,  Sarvodaya Mandal , Lok Sevak Mandal , Satyabadi Bana Vidyalaya, Swaraj Ashram among others will participate in the event.

The Odisha Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Odisha Khadi and Village Industries Board and the Utkal University Department of Gandhian Studies too will join us.

We seek the co-operation of members from all chapters to help make this event a success.

More details will be posted in the following days. Members interested may please convey their willingness so that we can include them in the core group. A separate WhatsApp group has been formed and interested members will be included in the group.

Ideas  and  suggestions  from Intach  members are invited.
