Paperman Media ( Bhubaneswar )- Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Friday called upon young people to emerge as solution-oriented leaders and active participants in India's democratic journey, saying true leadership is not about winning an argument but about finding solutions that benefit society and strengthen the nation.
Inaugurating the Young Indians Parliament 2026 at the Tennis Auditorium of Kalinga Stadium here, the Governor said India's greatest strength lies not merely in being the world's largest democracy but in the values that bind its people together. Democracy, he said, thrives on active citizen participation, accountable institutions and informed public discourse, empowering every citizen to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Describing Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies as the living pillars of the country's democratic framework, Dr. Kambhampati said these institutions provide forums where diverse opinions meet, public policies are debated, laws are enacted and governments remain accountable to the people. Healthy debate, reasoned discussion and respectful disagreement, he said, are the hallmarks of a vibrant democracy and indispensable for responsive governance, stronger institutions and greater public trust.
Calling upon students to uphold these democratic traditions, the Governor said the future of Indian democracy would depend on their integrity, awareness and commitment to the larger public good. The Young Indians Parliament, he said, is more than a mock Parliament; it is a platform for nurturing leadership, critical thinking, confidence and a spirit of public service. The deliberations they participate in today are not merely an academic exercise but the first step towards becoming informed, responsible and compassionate citizens. Whether they choose careers in public service, law, science, education, entrepreneurship or any other profession, he said, the values they cultivate today will shape the India of tomorrow.
Expressing confidence in the younger generation, Dr. Kambhampati said young minds often come up with the most innovative solutions during times of crisis. He encouraged participants to speak with confidence, listen with patience, respect differing viewpoints and always place national interest above personal preferences. Recalling his tenure as a Member of Parliament, he said he maintained a 97 per cent attendance record because listening to people's concerns is essential for understanding their aspirations and ensuring holistic national development. Unless leaders listen and understand the problems of the people, he remarked, it is difficult to visualise comprehensive and inclusive development. He also expressed hope that many of the participants would one day represent the people in Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies.
Highlighting the transformative impact of artificial intelligence and digital technologies, the Governor said rapid technological advancement is reshaping every sphere of life, but innovation must always be guided by ethics, responsibility and constitutional morality. Progress in science and technology, he said, should move hand in hand with democratic values and respect for constitutional processes. Reaffirming that the Constitution remains the guiding light of the Republic, he urged the youth to uphold the ideals of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity as India advances towards the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Commending Young Indians and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for organising the initiative, Dr. Kambhampati said such platforms are nurturing informed citizens, confident leaders and responsible nation-builders. He also appreciated the Bhubaneswar Chapter of Young Indians for bringing together bright young minds from across Odisha to deepen their understanding of democracy, leadership and public service.
Referring to the economic challenges arising from geopolitical tensions in West Asia and India's dependence on imported crude oil, the Governor urged the youth to embrace Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for economic self-defence through conscious lifestyle choices. He said reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels by gradually shifting to electric mobility would strengthen India's energy security while easing pressure on the country's foreign exchange reserves. Noting that the Governor's official convoy has been using electric vehicles, he said individual behavioural changes can collectively make a significant contribution to national self-reliance and sustainable development.
CII Odisha State Council Vice Chairman Manikanta Naik and Young Indians Bhubaneswar Mentor and former Chairperson Vishal Dalmia also addressed the gathering. Young Indians Bhubaneswar Chairperson Gaurav Goel delivered the welcome address, while Co-chairperson Proshish Golyan proposed the vote of thanks.
