Farmisto Sarva Pratham Kisan Research & Training Foundation, with support from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), launched its “Biochar Project – From Crop Residues to Soil Health” at Bangali Tola village in Munger district on Thursday.

The programme was inaugurated by Gautam Kumar Singh, Chief General Manager (CGM), NABARD, Patna. The highlight was a live demonstration of converting crop residues and locally available biomass into biochar using a Drum-Type Pyrolyser, formally inaugurated by Shri Singh.

Addressing farmers, dignitaries emphasised sustainable agriculture, soil-health improvement and productive utilisation of agricultural waste. The project will promote farmer awareness, practical training and community participation, demonstrating how suitable crop residues can be converted into biochar for appropriate agricultural use.

He encouraged banking officials to organise village-level financial-literacy campaigns to improve rural communities’ awareness of financial services and development opportunities.

The visit was particularly significant for Bangali Tola residents, as Shri Singh recalled his earlier tenure as District Development Manager and his involvement in development activities in Munger, including the village. Shri Kishore Jaiswal expressed the villagers’ happiness at welcoming him back as CGM after many years.

Among those present were Shri Y. P. Singh, Chief Manager, ITC, Munger; Shri Sanath Jaipuriar, Honorary Director, Farmisto Group; Shri Lalan Kumar Singh, AGM, NABARD; Shri Sujit Kumar Singh, DDM, NABARD, Munger; and representatives of banks, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Aajeevika and NGOs.
