Governor Brajmohan Ram on Friday called for an integrated approach to tourism development in Odisha, emphasising improved infrastructure, global promotion and inclusive growth benefiting local communities.

Addressing the valedictory ceremony of the 7th Odisha Tourism Conclave in Bhubaneswar, the Governor said every district possesses unique tourism potential, historical landmarks, natural wealth and cultural traditions that deserve wider national and international recognition.

Congratulating the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Odisha and the organisers, he said the conclave provided a common platform for the government, tourism industry and investors to develop actionable strategies for the sector.

Describing tourism as a key driver of economic growth, employment and entrepreneurship, Ram highlighted its links with hospitality, transport, handicrafts, local cuisine, agriculture and small businesses. He stressed that tourism must generate livelihoods while preserving cultural identity.

Highlighting Odisha’s attractions, he referred to Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath, the Konark Sun Temple, Bhubaneswar’s ancient temples, Chilika Lake, the coastline, Buddhist heritage, tribal traditions and wildlife.

He said better connectivity, quality accommodation, modern amenities, skilled human resources and effective digital promotion were essential to attracting more visitors and investment. He also called for developing eco-tourism, spiritual tourism, adventure tourism and MICE tourism, covering meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions.

Emphasising environmental conservation, the Governor said local communities must be active partners in tourism development. Responsible tourism, he added, could empower youth, strengthen local economies and promote Odisha’s cultural heritage, contributing to the vision of Viksit Odisha and Viksit Bharat.

Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, Consul General of India in Auckland Dr Madan Mohan Sethi and former Odisha Chief Secretary Gokul Pati also addressed the gathering. Association chairman Dr J. K. Mohanty delivered the welcome address.
