New Delhi- President smt Draupadi Murmu conferred Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards for the year 2026 at the first phase of civilian decorations ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan today (25 May, 2026). The Vice President of India, Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Dr. Mahendra Mishra, an eminent educationist, linguist and folklorist from Odisha, was conferred the Padma Shri Award at today's ceremony. Dr. Mishra has worked dedicatedly for more than four decades to include and preserve endangered tribal languages in the modern education system. He has encouraged many tribal organizations and youth in promoting tribal languages, culture and education along with the development of tribals.
Two people were awarded the Padma Vibhushan, six were awarded the Padma Bhushan and 58 were awarded the Padma Shri. Noted actor and Bollywood star Dharmendra Singh Deol, popularly known as Himyan of Bollywood, was awarded the Padma Vibhushan posthumously. Similarly, renowned violinist and musician Dr. N. Rajam was awarded the Padma Vibhushan for his outstanding contribution to the field of arts.
Similarly, renowned gastroenterologist Kallipatti Ramasamy Palaniswami and former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and former Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari were awarded the Padma Bhushan. Uday Kotak of eminent bank, Satvakhi Dr. R. Ganesh, Vijay Kumar Malhotra (Marnottar) and Piyush Pandey (Marnottar) were also awarded the Padma Bhushan.
Among the prominent personalities who have received the Padma Shri are Indian women's cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur, actor Prasenjit Chatterjee, prominent social workers from Arunachal Pradesh Techie Gubin, Arvind Vaidya, social worker Nilesh Vinod Chandra Mandelwala, para-athlete Praveen Kumar, and writer Gambhir Singh Yonjon.
