Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) across Odisha are celebrating National Sports Day 2026 from August 28 to 30 with a wide range of sporting and fitness activities under the national theme, “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat.”
The three-day celebration, organised around the pillars of Tribute, Play and Move, aims to highlight the importance of sports in nurturing a healthy, disciplined, confident and resilient generation. The occasion commemorates the birth anniversary of legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, observed as National Sports Day on August 29.
Students across EMRS campuses are participating enthusiastically in athletics, kabaddi, kho-kho, volleyball, basketball, football, table tennis, chess, yoga and indigenous games. Schools are also conducting sports demonstrations, friendly competitions, fitness activities and floral tributes.

A key initiative, “Ek Ghanta Khel Ke Maidan Mein,” encourages students to spend meaningful time on playgrounds and make physical activity a regular part of their daily routine.
Principals, teachers, Physical Education Teachers and staff are actively guiding and motivating students while ensuring safe and inclusive participation. The celebrations also provide an opportunity to identify promising sporting talent and encourage students to pursue higher levels of competition.
Through the initiative, EMRS Odisha is reinforcing the role of sports in holistic education, promoting fitness, teamwork, leadership, discipline, resilience and sportsmanship among students.
