Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday disbursed the fifth instalment of the Subhadra Yojana at Lathipada in Nayagarh district on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The financial assistance was transferred directly to the bank accounts of 1,03,26,162 women beneficiaries, involving more than ₹5,163 crore across the state.
In Nayagarh district, 2,33,585 eligible beneficiaries received a total of ₹116.80 crore under the fifth instalment.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Majhi described Subhadra as more than a financial assistance programme, calling it a symbol of women’s empowerment and the government’s commitment to the state’s women.
«“Providing Subhadra assistance on Raksha Bandhan gives me the feeling of fulfilling the duty of a brother,” the Chief Minister said.»
The Chief Minister said true women’s empowerment means making women socially, economically and politically self-reliant and giving them the ability to take decisions for themselves.
Citing survey findings of IIM Sambalpur and State Bank of India, Majhi said nearly 80 per cent of women beneficiaries are utilising Subhadra assistance for long-term financial security, business and developmental activities rather than merely meeting daily expenses. He added that 87.19 per cent of beneficiaries consider the scheme highly useful.
He also highlighted successful women entrepreneurs from Nayagarh, Ganjam, Subarnapur and Koraput, describing their achievements as an inspiration for women across the state.
The government is also promoting women entrepreneurship through the Women Entrepreneurship Platform, providing business guidance, skill training, market linkages and financial support.
Speaker Surama Padhy, Deputy Chief Minister and Women & Child Development Minister Pravati Parida, Puri MP Sambit Patra and Kandhamal MP Sukanta Panigrahi also addressed the gathering.
During the programme, the Chief Minister interacted with successful Subhadra beneficiaries and released the Subhadra Annual Report 2025-26, SBI Survey Report and Subhadra Review.
Senior officials, including Women & Child Development Department Commissioner-cum-Secretary Dr. Mrinalini Darswal, Director Monisha Banerjee and Nayagarh Collector Madhumita Rath, were present.
