Conference on Committee of Presiding Officers held at Puri

Paperman Media ( Bhubaneswar )- The Second Meeting of the Committee of Presiding Officers constituted to review the powers of Presiding Officers under the Tenth Schedule to the Constitution of India was successfully held at Puri today. 

The meeting was chaired by the Hon’ble Speaker, Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Shri Rahul Suresh Narwekar, who is the Chairman of the Committee. The Hon’ble Speaker, Odisha Legislative Assembly, Smt Surama Padhy delivered the welcome address and extended a warm reception to all the distinguished participants, highlighting the significance of the deliberations in strengthening the institutional framework governing the Tenth Schedule. 

The meeting was attended by the Hon’ble Speakers of the Legislative Assemblies of Karnataka Shri U.T. Khader Fareed and Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly Shri Sharingain Longkumer, along with the Secretaries of the Legislative Assemblies of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Nagaland and Odisha Shri Satyabrata Rout. The Advocate General, Odisha Shri Pitambar Acharya also participated in the deliberations and provided valuable legal insights on various aspects relating to the interpretation and implementation of the provisions of the Tenth Schedule.

The Committee, after due deliberations, decided to convene its next meeting in the State of Karnataka after a period of two months, to further continue its review and finalize its recommendations.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, reaffirming the collective commitment of the Presiding Officers towards upholding the spirit of parliamentary democracy and ensuring the effective functioning of the Tenth Schedule.
