Paperman Media (Bhubaneswar)- The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has strongly condemned the brutal police assault on students who were peacefully marching from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament in New Delhi yesterday. A BJD delegation, led by the Leader of the BJD Parliamentary Party in the Rajya Sabha, Shri Manas Ranjan Mangaraj, today visited the injured students undergoing treatment at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in New Delhi and conveyed its deep sympathy to them.
The BJD delegation comprised Shri Manas Ranjan Mangaraj, Leader of the BJD Parliamentary Party in the Rajya Sabha; Dr. Santrupt Misra, MP; Dr. Sasmit Patra, MP; Smt. Sulata Deo, MP and Shri Subhasish Khuntia, MP. The MPs interacted with the injured students, enquired about their health, and assured them that the Biju Janata Dal would always stand by them in their fight for justice.
The delegation also conveyed the deep sympathy of Shri Naveen Patnaik, President of the Biju Janata Dal, to the injured students. The MPs assured them that the BJD would continue to raise the issue through constitutional and democratic means until appropriate action is taken against those responsible for the incident. Earlier in the day, under the leadership of Shri Manas Ranjan Mangaraj, all BJD Rajya Sabha MPs staged a protest at Vijay Chowk in New Delhi and strongly condemned the brutal police assault on the students. Addressing a press conference, the BJD MPs also announced the party's unconditional support to the students' movement.
All BJD MPs demanded that the proceedings of Parliament be suspended to facilitate a special discussion on this serious issue. They strongly protested inside the House, demanding justice for the injured students and stringent action against those responsible. Owing to the uproar by the Opposition parties, the House was subsequently adjourned. MPs from various Opposition parties also joined the protest and condemned the inhuman police assault on the students. The right to hold peaceful protests is a fundamental right of every citizen, and it is the responsibility of the Government to ensure its protection. The use of force against peaceful protesters undermines democratic values. The Biju Janata Dal will continue its fight, both inside and outside Parliament, until every injured student receives justice and those responsible are brought to account.
