Bhubaneswar- Prominent play writer, dialoguer, screenwriter and director Bijay Mishra has died at a private hospital in here today. He was 83 years old at the time of his death. He was awarded the Kendra Sahitya Akademi and the recently honored with Jaydev Award, the top most award of Odisha Cinema.
Bijay Mishra was born in Santara Gadia village in Balasore district. He matriculated at Nilgiri High School and studied Intermidiate at Fakirmohan University, then graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from Bhubanananda Odisha School of Engineering, Cuttack. He started his writing from Panchajanya magazine. During his lifetime, Bijay Mishra has written 40 plays, 55 films and 4 serials. He received the Kendra Sahitya Akademi award in 2013 for his play “Banprastha”. He has previously won the Odisha Sahitya Akademi award in 1987 for “Jadugara”. He won the Byscope award in 2016.
He was the author of many Odia films, serials and plays. His “Tata Niranjana” drama has been translated into various languages. In addition, he has written many plays, such as Janani, Akaki, Ashanta Graha, Jajabar and many more.
