Lanjigarh-Vedanta Limited’s Lanjigarh unit kicked off the most-awaited ‘Knockout Cricket Tournament 2019’ at Vedanta Nagar playground in Lanjigarh. Partnering with Niyamgiri Vedanta Nagar’s Golden Sports Club, a record 32 teams are competing in the 12-over inter-village tournament, scheduled from 25th March to 14th April 2019.
Commenting on the event, Mr. Rakesh Mohan, COO – Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh unit said, “Sport is a common fabric which binds us with our communities in Kalahandi. We are very happy to see the enthusiastic participation of the communities in such large numbers in the tournament. It only strengthens our commitment of working tirelessly in their interest.”
Vedanta Township team won the inaugural match against Niyamgiri Vedanta Nagar Colony. Under the captainship of Diptiranjan Sahoo, Vedanta Township scored 132 for the loss of six wickets. Man of the Match Raj Khan scored a half-century in just 25 balls and to steer his team to victory.
With a view to promote sports within the region and build camaraderie amongst local youth, 32 teams from across the state are participating in the prestigious tournament. The teams/ villages include Golden Sports Club, Kotraguda, Champadeipur, Basantapada, Ambadola, Chatikona, Harekrushnapur, Rayagada, Kamarda, Chhatrapur, Singpur, Dakulguda, Sardapur, Gopinathpur, Bissamcuttack, Muniguda, Lanjigarh, NVN, Rengopali, Mering, Ramchandrapur, Jagannathpur, Sitapur, Bijepur, Patraguda, Biswanathpur, Lanjigarh Road, Baterlima, Reliving Stars, The Great Bhatguda and Vedanta Township.
