New Delhi: India welcomed the arrest of Nirav Modi, accused of bank scam, on behalf of Britesh officials in London and said that he is in talks with Britain for his extradition as soon as possible. In order to deal with Britain’s complex extradition process, the Government of India has asked every agency to work on its own level. Foreign Ministry spokesman Ravish Kumar said that India has always been in touch with Britain about the extradition case of Neerav Modi. Kumar said, “We welcome this fact that UK officials have arrested Neerav Modi in the order of warrant issued by the Westminster Magistrate Court.”

Meanwhile BJP appreciated the arrest and gave it credit to the “political power” of the Indian investigating agencies and the Narendra Modi government.

Senior party leader and law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the government is moving forward honestly on the petition to extradite the fugitive diamond businessman and said that India’s global importance is an “important factor”.

CBI will help everybody

CBI sources said on Tuesday that all necessary efforts are being made to bring Nirav Modi, who is absconding in the PNB bank scam, to extradite Britain from Britain. Sources said that extradition has been requested from the UK through the Ministry of External Affairs. Highly-placed sources said the agency has not received any new information after seeing some television channels in London on Tuesday.

He said that the legal process of extradition of an accused takes time and the CBI will give all possible assistance to UK agencies for its extradition request. Sources have clarified that there is currently no plan to send a team to London.
